So if you haven't gathered, we just moved to Bakersfield last month.
Today my 5-year-old got his report card from his new school, and I'm proud to say he did a darn fine job!
(I'm slightly concerned he didn't recite the days of the week when asked to by his teacher, considering his previous teacher taught him a rhyme he recited non-stop for weeks. And now he doesn't recall? Ug.)
His teacher even gave him a pass for not having his new address memorized, lol.
Here's a question I'm throwing out to all in the Bakosphere ... What phone number do you have you lil kids memorize?
Obviously as they get older they can memorize more than one.
We do have a home phone number and are using it more since there are more of us in the house at any given time. But we're very tied to our cell phones. My son even asks me to 'text' his dad and ask him questions, lol.
My cell number is a different area code, so it's three more numbers for him to learn. Then again, if he ever gets lost and has to recite it at Disneyland, I guess he'd better know the home number is 661. I sure don't recall having to learn my area code as a kid.
I'm wondering if there is a safety reason to teach him the home number, like more information is tied to it should he ever get lost? Kind of like teaching him that if he has to call 911, call from the house phone and not the cell so the number can be traced.
Maybe there is no difference. I'm not sure. But I thought I'd throw it out there for discussion.
What do you think?
P.S. Anyone else wear a metal ID bracelet or necklace when you were a kid? Can you imagine putting all that info on your child nowadays? Oye.
