Summer bed time routine
This question is for the parents with school age children - do you keep your kids on the same bed time routine during the summer as if they were getting up and ready for school in the morning? We've been struggling with Cole's bed time here lately and I don't know if I should lighten up and let him stay up til 8:30 or go to bed at 8 o'clock. Last night he was up until 9:30 watching cartoons while daddy and I watched a movie in our bedroom and the little one slept between us. Now mommy is grumpy today, I have a playdate scheduled for 10am at my house, then an appt. with the local broker to go to work as a real estate agent, and a ton of sponsorship money to pick up for the 4H club today - not a good day for mommy to be grumpy. But that's off the original subject - I need a 2nd or 3rd blog for my grumpiness today. Cole starts school in 6 weeks - am I being to uptight for making him go to bed early all through summer? Since we don't have doors on the boys bedroom upstairs, they hear everything that goes on downstairs, so Brian and I end up in bed at 8:15 or 8:30 so we can shut our bedroom door and watch TV without bothering the boys.

my oldest is in pre-k but i still consider it school for purposes of having a bedtime because he has to be up by a certain time. i've relaxed the rules for summer because there is more of an opportunity to sleep in. i remember my parents made me stay up later in the summer, and i'm no worse for it. i think it's what makes summer fun! posted by

we're probably too relaxed on the bedtime DURING the school year. Summertime bedtimes are pretty much just send the kids to bed when you can tell they've had enough or when the parents go to bed or whichever comes first. posted by

We still have a decent bedtime for the most part.. unless circumstances prevent that from happening. So recently they've been in bed between 830 and 930 ish. Normally during the school year, I like to make sure they are in by 8:30 if not earlier, because they are both a PAIN to have to drag out of bed for school in the morning! posted by

The kiddo is almost 4, and was in her first year of preschool last year. She was in bed by 8:00 if not earlier. However, now that it's summer, she's in bed around 8:30 or 9 (if she had a nap) and 7:30 or 8 (if she didn't have a nap). However, we're flexible with that. Sometimes we have late evenings - like tonight is the street faire, so she may not get to bed till 9:30 - we'll see. But you see, sleeping in is not a strength of the kiddo's. She was up at 6:30 yesterday and today. Yeah, we're taking a nap today!!! posted by

My kids only sleep in when I need to them to be awake before 7, like Tuesday, we were leaving at 7:30 heading to Bakersfield and they both slept in until after 7, so I had the mad dash of getting all of us dressed and ready to leave. And no breakfast before we leave, they both get car sick. I'm not a morning person per say, I'm not all cheery and bright eyed, but I do like to be dressed and breakfast done or being eaten by 8am, otherwise I feel like I've wasted half my day and just can't get back on track, then I'm grumpy and frustrated that dinner doesn't get cooked until after 6. I think there's something wrong with me!!!!!!
