Our worst summer fears

I just got a phone call that a friends ranch is burning, less than 1/2 mile across the meadow from my house, so we are on fire standby to evacuate if needed. The planes have been flying all morning but I thought it was towards the other fires up by San Jose and with all the haze from the other fires I couldn't tell that any of it was from our mountains.  I called Brian to let him know, which just puts more stress on him, and makes me a wreck too. You'd think after 5 years I would be used to this possibility, but I still don't have my fire evac list (things I need to take with us).  Gotta go pack bags and load valuables.

I'll be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers, along with your neighbors.

You, your neighbors, mountain friends will be in my prayers until I hear you are safe from the fire's path!  Let us know when the threat passes!  Be safe and take care!

Hi all! We're still at home, the fire was put out in about 3 hours, still have some smoke from it but otherwise it's out.  We haven't had a fire on this part of the mountain where I live in a long time, so the brush is really thick in areas and the dry season makes it worse.  Thanks for thinking of us, hopefully that's our only scare this summer.  And the neighbors ranch was never touched by the fire, came darn close, but their land and buildings are okay.

I may complain about my house sometimes, but when we get a call to be on standby to evacuate, I get sick to my stomach to think my house could burn and we'd lose everything precious to us.
