Our 4H is folding
After four years of pouring my heart and soul into this 4H club it looks like we might fold this year. We have to have so many kids over the age of 9 to run the club, and we only have 3 this year, that's at least 2 short of minimum and a bunch short of making the club run smoothly every meeting. I haven't told the rest of the club yet, I've talked with one mom in particular about it. We are thinking of joining another club off the mountain and just deal with the fact of driving our boys down twice a month for meetings. Since this mom and I are both leaders we can lead projects for our boys up here, but it's not much fun doing things on your own without other kids to talk to, etc. There's a community club leader meeting/dinner this Thursday night that I had already said I was going to but am now thinking I should skip it. I get emotional when I think about the club folding and what to do. Would you go if you were in this position? 3 comments from 3 users

I'm sorry to hear about your 4-H club. My wife and I were both active in 4-H. I was even a 10-year member. Unfortunately, our sons are too young to join or we'd help. I'm sure you've already done this, but I'd post flyers in the area elementary schools. 4-H just isnt for farmers. Trust me, I never showed a single farm animal. posted by

Thanks folks. Unfortunately our area school has only 9 kids in it this year, all the other "area" schools are an hour away down the hill and most of those kids are part of the 4H in their area. I think I will end up putting Cole in a Kern County 4H club, we're currently part of the Tulare County group but since I do most everything in Bakersfield, the meetings in Tulare are out of the way for me. I feel lost without the 4H, it's been such a huge part of my life for the past 4 years. I know I won't be as active in another club like I am now, but that would probably be a good thing with a new job and a kindergarten.
