An Introduction
Hi! My name is Becky. I have three sons and a daughter. My husband and I have been in Bakersfield since May of 2007. We moved here to start a new church; my husband is a pastor. I am a social worker and have been doing some paperwork in the area of adoptions for the State of Oklahoma (which is where we moved from). I am also currently looking for a part time job, hopefully in the social service field. One of our challenges and opportunities is that we have two older children and two younger children. James is 13 and Jason is 10. They are in school during the day and busy with extracurricular activities. Then I have David who is 5 and Sarah who is 3. They are home with me during the day. It is almost like we have two separate families. We find that it is hard to find activities that everyone enjoys. On the flip side of this challenge, there are many benefits. My older two are so great (most of the time) to help with the younger two. I don't know how mom's with several young ones do it! I applaud you!!! The other great thing is that I feel like I am able to connect and relate to women of all ages because I seem to have things in common with moms older than me who have older kids and moms younger than me who have younger kids. While it is not what we initially imagined our family to look like, I am glad that it is how God blessed us! My kids are wonderful, and they are each so different and unique. I think it is absolutely incredible how four children can come from the same two parents but be so incredibly different! I have worked in the social service field for almost 14 years. I have done child abuse investigations, court cases, adoption cases and foster care cases, all in the state of Oklahoma. It is hard job, but I definitely feel that it is my calling. I love working with the kids and the families. I love to meet new people and to develop relationships. I love activities that I can do with my kids and my husband. I also love time away from the kids, either with my husband or with other women! Parenting is an awesome responsibility (one I sometimes wonder why anyone should be given) with fabulous rewards, but with a lot of exhaustion at times also! I am honored that God chose me to raise these amazing children!

Its great to know another couple who has made a big move to Bakersfield, and can relate to us.  Thanks for all your help with Z!

Welcome to town from another transplant--we've been here a whole five years!  :)  It's great to hear about how your professional and personal passions intertwine, social work and family, all about youth, really--like my passions for education and youth and family and community.  Glad you're here!
