"Rules"
So the kiddo is comin' up with stuff that stumps us at times. She must see my jaw drop when she dishes out a good one. Tonight she wanted me to stop cleaning the kitchen and go with her to the bathroom. This is a recap of our conversation: Me: Honey, why don't you go potty before we get you ready for night-night? Kiddo: I want you to come with me. Me: Sweetie, I'm in the middle of cleaning up the kitchen. You can go by yourself (which she does all the time), and I'll be here in the kitchen. I'm not far away. Kiddo: But I want you. I can't go by myself. Me: You go by yourself all the time. Now go potty so you can get ready for bed. Kiddo: (whining) Nooooooo. Those aren't MY RULES. You have to come with me. Me: What rules? Kiddo: My rules. My rules say I can't go by myself. Me: Who taught you about rules? Who else has rules? Kiddo: Eloise. (This is her imaginary friend.) Me: I'm going to have to talk to Eloise. So I don't know where this "rules" thing came from. Maybe she invented it on her own. She has been trying new tactics. I tell you, the kiddo changes her strategy for getting what she wants all the time, and I'm constantly having to make adjustments. She certainly keeps me on my toes. And she keeps me laughing. 4 comments from 4 users

This reminds me a bit of my daughter.. coming up with inventive new ways to get what she wants. She recently hurt her foot... and then told me she needed her chocolate candy bar so make her foot feel better....UMMMMM nice try honey. :) posted by

Most of the time my kid pretty much rules the roost. Lately he's been throwing a lot of objects and that is not acceptable. He's still under two so we've been using time-outs but I don't think he is too far from a little swat on the tookis. He is rough and tumble and is always into mischief, which is cool and I encourage. But, when objects start flying through the air that is a complete no-no. He's only just started his word explosion, so at least for now "no" is about the extent of his back talk. Sadly, for now. posted by
