jbaldwin - > There's a first time for everything -> Told the patient "No more goat cheese until after delivery"
Told the patient "No more goat cheese until after delivery"

Well after writing that previous blog, I have a word of warning for mothers to be: Follow the rules on eating raw, undercooked or non-pasteurized foods!!!

I got really, really, really sick last week and could only go to two places: my bed, and the toilet. And no, it's not a good thing that my illness took care of my constipation problem :)

I was convinced I had listeriosis, which you get from the bacteria listeria which can be found in raw, undercooked or non-paseurized foods. Several phone calls to my doctor assured me that my body was dealing with the bacteria correctly and I was not going to get meningitis or miscarry or die. But god, it was awful.

Upon the last call from the doctor's assistant, as she read back my notes from the week, I chuckled at the last line of the doctor's notes: "Told the patient no more goat cheese until after delivery." NO problem!

I went to the doctor this morning for my regular monthly appointment and felt assured everything was OK after hearing a much louder, stronger heartbeat than last month. However, any weight I might have gained before last week I lost again. I'm still three pounds lighter than I was before getting pregnant. I am supposed to be gaining a pound a week here!

My doctor's orders this morning: You need to gain weight.

Rest assured I will start eating more, but no undercooked meats, no non-pasteurized dairy products, and I will scrub my raw veggies raw.

So glad to hear that you are feeling better and the heartbeat is stronger and louder this month!  Isn't that just an amazing sound??  I really looked forward to my doctor's check ups just to hear the heartbeat!  When you get to have an ultrasound....that's the visit you really need to have the camcorder and your honey there!  Okay, I need to get back on topic...I love bleu cheese, and REALLY craved it during my pregnancies.....but, I did a little research and found that I didn't really want to risk the same fate that you experienced.  The warnings are serious - even if you don't need to gain weight.  The illness I felt for almost the first 4 months....constant morning sickness, couldn't stand to cook anything that was meat, the smell (or thought of it) would send me running for the nearest trashcan....was bad enough.  I threw up chow-mein during my first pregnancy....still can't eat it!  Anyway, glad to hear that you are better - with no ill effects!

Next time, listen to the doctor?  ;)

One last idea to help you pack a few pounds on....head to Dewar's and get a George's special with ice cream!  (This was my excuse to have one...every time!)  It's made with ice cream, walnuts, bananas - how healthy can you get?  If you want to limit the fat grams....go for ice milk.  Yummy, if you aren't sold by now....try the peppermint stick ice cream, peanut butter chews....what ISN"T good at Dewar's?!

Enjoy it - and then have a ball taking your new bundle of joy there when you are able to enjoy their first taste of treats!

I wouldn't worry about the weight gain too much. I'm still 10lbs under my pre-pregnancy weight at 25 weeks and our baby is healthy and doing fine.
