The baby moves!

On Tuesday, five days ago, I felt the baby move for the first time. At least, I thought I did. It felt like soft bubbles popping in my abdomen. Maybe it was gas, but maybe it wasn't. I was sitting at my desk when it happened.

Then each day since, in the morning as I lay in bed "waking up" with a granola bar and a book, I feel the same sensations. Each day they get stronger, and I know it's not gas! Yesterday morning it went on for about 10 minutes. "Are you doing somersaults down there?" I asked the baby.

But the best one was this morning. James spent the night and after I felt the first movement this morning, I put his hand on my abdomen. Suddenly I felt a big push. "Was that you?" I asked him. "No!" he said, with a big smile on his face. He felt it too! The baby totally responded to his hand. I asked him what it felt like, and he ran his finger along my forearm and said "Like it was doing this inside of you." Wow! What a special moment for us to share! And now I know for sure it isn't gas!

James took this photo of me Thursday night, marking the start of 18 weeks and the fifth month. He doesn't think I look any bigger than four weeks ago, but I sure feel bigger. It's almost time to get some new pants.

Oh man it took forever for Stephen to be able to feel it after I did. I felt the first movement March 21, he didn't feel it until April 25. So one old wives tale is that if you count 5 months from when you felt the first movement that's when the baby will be born.

Well that would make it Nov. 17, and my due date is Nov. 21. Not a bad guesstimation! Thanks for the tip :)

Feeling both babies move was the best sensation!  I remember laying on the couch while our first born was running around and playing with dad in the livingroom - I was expecting son #2.  Colby ran to me, laid his head on my tummy and said, "brother, play with us!"  Just then the baby started kicking and playing with Colby's face...that was the most precious moment!  Of course, that was the beginning of our daily play times until Caden joined us in April, 2004.  They still love to "whoop-tail" as Colby nicknamed their play time with dad long ago...

Enjoy these precious moments!  And make sure to read stories, play music, and talk all the time to your belly - James will enjoy doing this too.  You'll be amazed at how the baby will recognize and be comforted by familiar voices when he or she are born...My hubby read a nighttime story to my belly almost every night, or he would lay and talk to it - trying to get it to kick, wake up or respond when I was relaxing.
