WOW!!!!!! - what a turn-out. we had dagny's packed-up, inside and out..... thank you for your support, it was so much fun for us to play for everyone.... i think everyone should start a kindie-rock band so they can experience what we got to experience last night (hint to all those who play....) - and... thank you's to all of those who helped us last night, from promotion (jason and tracey) and photography (holly carlyle) all the way to Art (the art teacher) who helped us roadie gear afterwards. and if you were there, you. you chose to bring your kids out to a local family-friendly concert and share in the fun on a friday evening when it could have been much easier to stay at home. you are the ingredient that makes this work..... so....from "the mr.oscat band" to you.....we say... thank you.(and a big goofy hug)
(if you have pics.. post 'em. we wanna see.......)the mr.oscat band is playing this friday oct 3rd at dagnys coffee on 20th and eye st at 6:15pm. and for the first time, we have a full band, with james dethlefsen playing the double bass and bruce jones on his brand spankin' new cocktail drum (and of course, christopher o'brien and myself...). this is part of the downtown "first friday arts fair" and also linked to the latter half of the "up on the roof / down on the street" event, too. hey! if you got something else we can pin this gig on, we'll be more than proud to do so, i suppose, we are equal opportunity pinners.... so, if you come to see us, be sure to come up and say hello, i'm easy to find, i'm the guy that looks like mr.oscat....oh, and... bring your kazoos....So, Disney puts together a tour, festival style, with Dan Zanes, They Might Be Giants, Ralph's World, Imagination Movers, and Choo-Choo Soul. Tickets average about $36 each. Lots of crazy Disney activity tents and such. Ticket sales are soft and they cancel the tour after a few shows. My question.... would you take your kids to see a show of this level and price point? Would you take your kids to see, say Dan Zanes, in Bakersfield and how much would you be willing to spend on tickets? i just got back from watching "miss val" at russo's. she plays and sings and tells stories and does a great job entertaining the younger set. she is there every wednesday at 10 a.m. for a half hour. we met afterwards and she is a really nice gal. so..... just go!!!! hello - mr.oscat played at the s.w. library on july 18th and it was a hootenanny. by librarian count, 132 people sang and danced and played their kazoo's (one woman did not want to participate in the quackquacks.... can you imagine????) i have posted pics on the scrapbook area and have more pics posted at www.mroscat.com - also, we should soon have pictures of the borders bookstore show up here too (nudgenudge, youknowwho) thank you all for the support......thank you for bringing your families out to Borders Books last night. we had such a great time. and we know that it takes extra effort to leave the house on a friday evening in such wonderful weather (ummm) but you did, and we appreciate that. we hope the show was worth your efforts. we will have pics up here and on the website as soon as they come in...(if you have some you want on the website, email them to us) big hugs from all of us - mr.oscat and the taylorettesi know what you're thinking..... and this time you're right.... i am (semi) shamelessly pre-show plugging. our alt/kids music kindie-rock band, mr.oscat is playing at the borders bookstore on stockdale hwy (behind the in-n-out (yummm) this friday july 11th at 7pm. we played there in april and a real good time was had by all. and, it's free family fun and they will supply the air conditioning and clean restrooms, we'll supply the entertainment and we'll all have a real good time, so right? (so right) it would be great to meet some of the rb.com people and put faces to names. if you could help us out and spread the word to anyone who may be interested in coming, it would be most appreciated. - btw bring your kazoo's.....thank you for your support - olen mr.oscat was lucky enough to be asked to play at the Shafter fireworks show on July 3rd. there were jumphouses, and three bands and lots of food and then, of course.... fireworks!!!!!..... we could not have been treated better and Crosby and crew from "Jesus Shack" did a great job handling the sound. we added some pictures in the scrapbook if you like to check them out...We played at the library in Tehachapi last Wednesday. What a great group of seriously well behaved kids (and adults too, i might add) We were truly impressed. Kris, from the library staff, tells us that they can draw up to 250 people for their Wednesday afternoon shows. Afterwards, we went to old town pizza for dinner (yum) and had a grand time . We cannot wait to go back. We posted some pictures in the scrapbook area of rb.com. btw - we're playing at the southwest branch in Bakersfield in July and can only hope for a repeat of this day. ---- olen (mr.oscat) hello everyone.... are you looking for an alternative to the kids music that is made by purple dinosaurs or wiggly guys from australia (not that there is anything wrong with either) ... here are a couple of really good resources for alt-kids music that you may find useful... all three of these folks blog sites have music shows that change weekly and include songs that cross age and genre bases (does that make sense?), don't just rely on the same kids songs that the television has deemed for us as being kid-worthy (although i find "jacks big music show" guests really good)...and... (semi-shameless plug alert)... they all three play "mr.oscat" on occasion....gooney bird kids - http://gooneybirdkids.blogs...the saturday morning cereal bowl - http://smcb.blogspot.com/spare the rock, spoil the child - www.sparetherock.complease enjoy - (and tell 'em mr.oscat sent you....)
and, so now..... what music do you and your kids listen to?????? |
