Counting Down to Summer Vacation

I don't know about y'all but I am counting the days until school's out. After 2 years of home schooling, public school has kicked my butt! It's been a great experience over all, but the getting up and out the door every morning with two kids for the past 9 months? Forget it! Not to mention the homework. My 8 year old is capable of doing most of her work without too much input from me, but I still have to make sure it gets done and correct it when it is. And let me tell you, some afternoons it's like pulling teeth to get her to sit down and finish her work. She comes home tired and hungry. I've tried letting her take a break, but then it sometimes seems harder to get back into work mode. I've tried forcing her to do it first thing when she gets home, but that generally ends in an all out revolt. So I try to split the difference. Anyway, all that to say that I cannot WAIT! until we don't have to be anywhere at 7:45 a.m.  Nor do we have to keep a strict bedtime. In fact, I plan to live it up this summer, since it may be the last one where I get to stay home. Of course, my class goes a week after their's ends, but still, the end is in sight!!

You're counting down til school is out and my oldest is counting down until he gets to go for a week!! Since our school system is so small the incoming kindergarteners get to go to school for the 2nd to last week to see what it'll be like when they are there full-time.  We did a trial run this morning, everybody was awake (though not totally coherent) before 6am. I let the boys watch 1 cartoon while the littlest one "woke up", then Cole had to go get dressed and make his bed while I took a shower. Then it was breakfast time while I dryed my hair. Cole was done before 7:30 so he had time to let the puppies out of their pen and feed all the dogs while I finished getting dressed.  So by 7:45 all three of us are dressed (even though I'm still wearing my house-shoes), had breakfast and the dogs fed. And there were no arguments from anyone.  I'm rather impressed, but somehow I don't think it will work that way when it's actually school time.  And the school bus just went around the  corner, so now is when I should be getting the boys in the truck to head for school (Cole doesn't get to ride the bus until he's officially a kindergartener).

I second pretty much everything you just said! I'm looking forward to not having to rush to make sure everyone is awake, fed, dressed and out the door at 8 a.m.  I'm also looking forward to not having to wake up to an alarm clock beeping in my ear!

I know what you mean.  Even though the kiddo is only in preschool two mornings a week, we have to be ready by 8 everyday b/c we take the neighbor kids to school.  And the kiddo is not one to jump out of bed and get dressed.  She must lounge for at least 30 min. before functioning.

I'm probably excited for a completely different reason.  I am the teacher and am anxiously waiting for a little bit of time off.  I am teaching summer school - 5th grade - but I get one week off before it starts.  That will be lovely.  Then Kevin will be gone for about 2 weeks during the summer so I'l! l be with the kids alone!!  I'm getting more used to this after 6 years!:)  But I am sure excited to be able to just hang out with my kids, something I don't get to do a lot of.  And I will definitely get to sleep in a little bit - although sleeping in is still getting up at around 6:30!
