Finally a Hobby. - Living My Childhood Dream - Christina's Blog - Raising Bakersfield

Some of you may recall my recent blog entitled - My Hall Closet is an Evil Reminder. In that writing, I speak of all my unfinished projects that I will certainly never accomplish. Well I would like to say, that contrary to what I wrote about my never used sewing machine, I have created a few.... dare I say Masterpieces? No. I won't say that. Not for a few years probably. But I thought I'd share them anyway. There is the taggy blanket that is made of real tags, because apparenlty my son can tell the difference between tags and just pieces of folded ribbon. You'll see the baby blanket I made for a friend's 4 week old (luckily she's too young to point out the mistakes), a headband that was more difficult than I could have ever imagined... and to top it all off my daughter won't wear it, and then there's the blanket I made this afternoon that is going to a one year old for his birthday in about a week.
If anyone here has sewing experience PLEASE share your wisdom with me!

My sewing experience-

-was enrolled in sewing in 7th grade

-spent 1 day in sewing class

-ran to all my other teachers and begged to be an aide

-dropped sewing

So, sad to say, I don't sew. I don't have any intention of sewing. If a button falls off _____, my hubby fixes it. If I need my pants hemmed, my mother or someone else does it for me. I don't even dream of sewing "projects." :)

My sewing experience is next to nothing....I took cooking in 7th grade, loved it! Never had the urge to sew, other than doing counted cross-stitch with my mom (not really sewing though)....I can sew a button on....if I know exactly where it came from! I used to hem the husband's pants with the fusible webbing that you can iron and it makes a nice hem....until you wash it too many times...my worst nightmare came true when I opened up my son's homework folder from Kindergarten this year, and it had a pattern and instructions on how to create your child's puppet costume....HUH? Well, I have a sewing machine, given to me years ago by my grandma. I have tried once or twice (and failed miserably!) to figure it out....maybe this was the time? NOT!!! So, I thought, "I can do this..let's go get some material and I can do this!" Well, my son decided that his puppet had to have a navy blue shirt AND camoflauge shorts.....no pattern for shorts, just something that looked like a dress! And this was for a puppet to go over his hand. Okay, I think I can do it...by hand. If all else fails, I can use the iron stuff....

Did I mention that this was going to be displayed at the Open House in May???? Well, it looked pretty good, after working on it almost all day one day....and another evening until like 11 at night. But, it was done, and it didn't look half bad! I will post a picture on my blog once I get it sent from my cell phone camera to my computer. The hand sewing I did wasn't bad...but, it could've been better!

My grandma was a seamstress extraordinaire.... my mom, and mother-in-law can all sew amazingly....somehow I lost the gift along the way....I can paint and create anything that way, just don't show me a pattern and ask me to sew anything! So, I say your creations are really awesome! Plus, you made them with love...that's what matters most! :)

I love the taggy one. very creative solution to your son's tag cravings! :-)

i never sewed. but I used to love getting the cartoon character latch-hook kits. I made a Tom Pillow and a Jerry Pillow when I was young and I was pretty proud if it. Oh, and I used to cross-stitch too.

been a while though...
