Out of the Mouths of Babes

We were at Rusty's Pizza Parlor today. G was sitting next to her prince, B. Here's what happened:

G: We're married. We need to live together.

B: Yeah, we're in true love.

G: I'll give you a married kiss. (She takes B's face in her hand, tilts her head, and goes in for the kiss.)

2 Aunties and Me, the Momma: Nooooooooo, don't kiss him!!!!!!! (All three of us reach out to run interference on the "marrried kiss." Happy to say the kiss was successfully blocked.)

As I sit in shock, the two aunties cover their mouths and try not to show their laughter.

Oh, boy. You know, this is all Disney's fault. This prince and princess thing has gone too far.

Then we we got home, the kiddo said, "Me and my prince need to go . . . where do you call it, Mommy?"

"I don't know, sweetheart. What are you talking about?" (I'm thinking she might say "vacation," and I'll explain to her that the newlyweds go on a honeymoon after the wedding. Now why would I think this?)

"After we get married, like we go to prison."

"Uh, no, you don't go to prison when you get married." (This was promptly followed by a mini lecture on how marriage is beautiful, mommy and daddy love each other very much, and we have never thought of our marriage as prison.)

So, I'm thinking, who used the words marriage and prison in the same sentence around her? Aaarrggghhh!

This I have learned: expect the unexpected out of a four year old's mouth.

KC Fair Time

Must say we've had some good times at the KC Fair this year. The highlight for me was the Bordeaux Mastiff. (I'll be doing some research on the breed- must gather info before heading into new dog territory). Take a look at our KC Fair 2008 pics.

The Women Are In Agreement!

The kiddo tip toed into our room in the wee hours of the morning. Not even the birds were awake. So we just let her snuggle in with us. The first one to fall back asleep, of course, is the hubby/daddy. In the distance I hear the chugging of the locomotive (my husband's snoring in its beginning stage - you know, before he really gets going). As the clock ticks, the locomotive gets louder and louder, and I'm about to give the hubby a whack on the back and tell him to roll over, when the kiddo shakes her daddy and says, "Moddy, I don't like it when you make that noise. Would you stop, please?" Atta girl! Help the momma out!

Maybe the hubby and kiddo should switch rooms??? :)

Goodnight Sweet Girl

After being tucked in tonight-

Kiddo (yelling): Mo-om!!! (pause as she waits for a response) Mommmmmyyyyyyyy!!!!! I need you to come here.

Me: What, honey?

Kiddo: Come here! I need something.

Me: Just tell me what you need.

Kiddo: I . . . Uh . . . I need . . . Uh . . . What do I need, Mommy?

Me: (giggling) You just need to talk to me. Goodnight, sweet girl.

Kiddo: Goodnight, Mommy.

Silence.

A Wonderful Report

For those of you who don't know, my niece has lupus, and as a result, she has been in kidney failure for some years now. In July, her miracle came, and she received her transplant.

Update-

My niece went for her weekly check up down at UCLA, and the doc said the kidney is working wonderfully. She is healing faster than anyone the doc's seen before. In fact, she was released from all restrictions. She doesn't have to wear the mask anymore. She can go to work and school now. She's free to live.

When the doc gave her the good news, she said, "I want a birthday swim party!" Oh, yeah, baby, you bet! Her bday is this month, and it is certainly worth celebrating!!!

Thank you, thank you, thank you God.

It's All About Ariel

As we sat on the sofa yesterday watching movies (I am so thankful for movies when I am single parenting it for a weekend and I am sick), we watched a promo for Ariel the Musical. Oh, wow. The costumes, the music - I'm a sucker for musicals in the first place- but the colors were majestic! How I wish that were on stage in L.A. I would take the kiddo to see it in a heartbeat. She so loves Ariel - to the point of confusing identities. She would be mesmerized. Oh, please send that musical to the West Coast!

And on that note, Mary Poppins needs to make her way out here, too. Just open up that little parasol of yours, Mary, and fly through the clouds. We are waiting for you.

Me: Honey, would you try not to get mud all over you at school?

Kiddo: Sure, Mom.

Me: Really? (thinking, "It would be so nice not to have to hose her off after preschool.")

See pics for kiddo's definition of "not mudddy." Take special note of new tennis shoes. :)

Eye Doctors

Anyone have recommendations for eye doctors? I'm specifically looking for eye doctors who are pediatric ophthalmologists and have experience with strabismus and amblyopia (lazy eye). I have one recommendation for a doc down at UCLA, but I'd like some others. (No, this is not for the kiddo; I just know someone who needs help.)

Back to Life, Back to Reality

Back to Taking Neighbor Kids to School- no more sleeping in till 7:30. We have to now leave the house by 7:25. This is quite a change from last year's schedule and certainly our summer schedule! Setting the alarm clock is once again part of my daily routine.

Back to Preschool- The kiddo started her second year of preschool today, the big kid class at that! I watched her during group time, and wow, she is so much more mature. *sniff* Will there ever be a first day of school I don't get teary-eyed? Oh, and as the kids walked in from outdoor play time, the kiddo took the hand of a new girl and showed her the way, sat by her in group time and befriended her like a sweet girl. Mama was proud!

Back to Work- Monday was my first day back at work. So, I'm back to ironing work clothes, back to putting on a full face of make up (ugh!), and back to wearing heels (another ugh!). However, I am enjoying teaching. I cannot imagine working full time, raising kids, doing the drop off and pick up from child care thing 5 days a week. I applaud all single parents - you are super people!

Back to Caffeine - Oh yeah. During the summer I noticed my caffeine intake diminished, but come that first day of getting up before the sun was up, I went right back to the coffee. God put that little zip in there for a reason :)

Night Time Pull Ups

The kiddo is outgrowing her night time pull ups, and she is not ready to stay in her underwear through the night. The pull ups are for kids weighing up to 40 lbs., and she is just over that. Any ideas as to what we could use?
