Feeling content.

The other day, while I was putting away laundry, I could hear my husband in the playroom reading with our kids. They were talking about shapes, counting the sides on a triangle and square, and discussing the colors of the different shapes in the book.

At that moment, I felt content. Like my life was just as it should be, with my family spending quality time together, loving and learning together. I knew as soon as I finished the laundry, I would go in there and sit with them, poring over their new shapes book with them, enjoying their cute little voices and faces as they pointed to the pictures. I am so blessed to be able to enjoy moments like this.

Oh the tears!

We were in the car today, running some errands, and my son was upset because he wanted to fix something. I can't even remember right now what it was, but lately he has had this desire to make things just so, just the way he wants them.

Anyway, he was whining and complaining, and I finally just told him, "Honey, it's okay. We can't always make things perfect. Nothing in this world is perfect."

And then he looked up at me and said, "Because only God can make things perfect."

My eyes instantly welled up.

When I grow up...

My DS has said some cute (and some downright funny) things about what he wants to be when he grows up. The other day he told me he wanted to be an astronaut when he grows up (cool!), and that got me thinking about everything else he has said he wants to be when he grows up. Here is everything I can remember that he has said:

Astronaut

Firefighter

"Train driver"

Garbage Man

Dog

Princess (those last two made me LOL)

Such great dreams! I will have to make sure I write these down in his baby book so we can giggle about it when he grows up.

Scary!

We went to Michael's on Monday, and as we were browsing through we set off a Halloween display with life-size creepy animated monsters (a headless bride and creepy groom)... DS freaked and tried to hide on another aisle, and DD started crying. My poor babies! They were afraid to go near that part of the store, and DD kept whimpering and saying "scary" until we left. I have to admit, those things got my heart pumping too. Here's what we set off: The Headless Bride and Her Groom

I hate Halloween season, because some of that stuff is just too scary to be sitting out on the aisles at the store. :(

At Bedtime Tonight...

"Mommy, sing me a song."

"OK!" I sing him "Jesus Loves Me."

"That's a good song," he says. "I sing it all of the time."

I grin. "That is a good song, isn't it."

"Yeah, because Jesus loves me."

Sometimes my kids make my heart feel so big, I don't know how it fits in my chest.

Foaming Soap Refill Recipe

My big boy is potty training! That means he is washing his hands--a lot--and his favorite soap to use is foaming hand soap. It is pretty expensive, and I hate to buy a new foaming soap bottle every time we run out. So, I went on the hunt for a recipe for a foaming soap refill. It works great! Here it is:

3 Tbsp. hand soap
2/3 cup warm water

Gently mix them together (do not shake!) and pour into foaming soap dispenser.

That's it!! Give it a try!

Ugh! She's too young to shave!

I accidentally left my razor out yesterday on the edge of the bathtub. My 18-month-old daughter was in my bathroom with me this morning while I brushed my teeth before heading out for a morning of errands. I looked over just in time to see her trying to shave her legs with my razor! :-o I freaked out and grabbed it from her, hoping she hadn't cut herself.

She gave herself a few little cuts on her knee--nothing serious--which I covered with ointment and a Scooby Doo bandaid (which she is most proud of). *sigh* Stupid me to leave that razor out. I'm honestly surprised that she knew what to do with it (um, it's not like I shave all that often *blush*).

Did I really say that??

LOL Some woman at Walmart this morning thinks I am the worst mom ever... We were walking down the aisle, with my daughter in the cart and my son hanging off of the side of it. Slightly distracted, I told him, "Get on the front of the cart so I don't smack you on the aisle." Lady at the corner of my eye gave me a double-take, like "Did you REALLY say that??" I then realized just what that sounded like, and said, "I don't want to bump you on the edge of the aisle, so get on the end of the cart..." LOL But the damage was probably already done, as she continued to walk down the aisle and probably didn't hear me correct myself. I REALLY didn't mean I was going to smack him, just that I didn't want him to smack into the shelves or the edge of the aisle... *blush*

The First Movie

We took our 3 year old to see Wall-E today at Edwards Cinema at the Marketplace. It was the first time he has been to a movie in the movie theater, and he did SO WELL! He has been talking about wanting to see Wall-E, so we had my parents come over to watch our daughter, and took our son out to lunch at Que Pasa (he had a fish taco) and to a movie. He sat on the little booster seat they have available, and sat quietly (for the most part) for the entire movie! He was so cute! While we were waiting for the movie to start, he would point to people coming in and say "That girl is going to see Wall-E too!" The movie proved to be a bit over his head, but I think he still enjoyed it. :) My husband got a bit of a nap, and I felt like I needed one afterwards, but all in all it was a great experience!

Gosh, it seems like any little thing can get me all sentimental lately.

It wasn’t even the content of the program on my son’s 8-year-old Blue’s Clues VHS. It was the commercials at the beginning. The cute little preschoolers hamming it up before the show started. They were preschoolers eight years ago, but today would be 11 or 12. The lesson: time flies quickly when you have kids. Eight years seem like not that big of a deal to me—I was just graduating from college eight years ago. It doesn’t seem like such a long time, but with kids it will be. So much will change over eight years. I must cherish and savor every day with my young ones. It will be no time before they’re all grown up.
