I go back and forth. There are some days I wish we lived on a chunk of land within sight of nothing else. But other days, I like that I can step outside my front door and have a conversation with my neighbor without leaving my porch. I think that is why we all do vacations in the way we do. There are exceptions of course, but I've noticed a pattern. People who live in the country, do vacations in the big attraction cities. People who live in the city, do vacations out in the country or up in the mountains. When we were moving from L.A., Jill had an offer to teach in Porterville. There was opportunity for good size property and it's a relatively quiet city. We liked that after our "busy" city upbringing, but thought about our kids and the limited opportunities they would have there.
