Natalie - I try to do creative things with them as much as possible.  Especially in regards to anything piratey!  I do love the genre.  Two of my favorite things to do are to make a treasure map out of a trader joe's paper bag and to bury gold doubloons in the backyard.  I got them at the party store for a few bucks.  Ethan is always trying to dig up my yard anyway, so I figure it'll be more fun for him if he finds anything other than dead worms!  I'll have to e-mail you a link to website I found about kid's birthday party theme ideas and crafts.  We use that to come up with good ideas to mess around with during the day.  Other than the treasure map, our favorite was the pirate ship we made out of sara lee sponge cake, a can of chocolate frosting, and some miscellaneous candy pieces.
