Parent Night Out Childcare Event

Parent Night Out, hosted by American Kids Sports Center, has been known to be the most fun your kids will ever have on a Saturday night (for the least amount of money too). Activities include gymnastics, group games, tumbling, martial arts, swimming (indoor), trampoline, and a lot more. Our Monkey Bar Café is open for the kids to purchase items during snack breaks.

So, why trouble with finding a babysitter when AKSC is always here to serve you! See you Saturday night!

"How big? How far?" Planetarium Show

2 - 3 pm, BC Planetarium.

The one-hour show will begin with a short tour of the evening sky using the planetarium's Goto Chronos star projector followed by the 27-minute all-dome presentation created by Nick Strobel on the Spitz SciDome that takes you on a tour of the solar system and beyond. The planets (and dwarf planet Pluto) and the Sun are compared with each other and you will learn the great distances between the objects in our solar system as you fly from object to object. You will also see the night sky as seen from the nearest star system and then fly out of the Milky Way galaxy.

Tickets are available for $5/adults and $3/children+seniors from the Bakersfield College Ticket Office only (tickets will NOT be sold at the door). The BC Ticket Office is in Business Services (395-4326) and the William M Thomas Planetarium is on the second floor, northwest end of the Math-Science Building, Room 112. The map below shows you where the ticket office and the planetarium are. No food, drink, or gum/candy is allowed in the planetarium. Children must be 5 years or older.

During The KnackSM Saturdays events, kids ages 5–12 will create their own fun craft for only $5 per child, including supplies. The Knack Saturdays offer 30-minute sessions at 10, 10:30, 11 and 11:30am.

Gourd Fest

Child Haven Carnival and Bazaar

Join us for a fun filled day of games for the children and shopping for parents. We will have carnival games for the children, different vendors/crafters for parents and food for all.

Snow Day at Greenacres Park

1 - 4 pm, Greenacres Ball Fields.

On Sunday November 23rd, we're turning Greenacres Park into a bunny slope for a day with revolutionary artificial snow surface.

Bring the whole family to learn the basics of snowboarding or skiing and have a great time hitting the "Slopes".

All participants of this "introduction" class will be awarded with a certificate that is good for an introductory ski package at Sierra Summit ( includes rental equipment, a group less, and access to the binner slopes).

*All equipment needed will be provided FREE of charge.

Holiday Lights at CALM

Back for its 6th year in operation, HolidayLights at CALM continues to thrive as one of the most popular holiday events in Bakersfield. CALM's outdoor exhibits will be transformed with more than two million lights, creating a whole new experience even for regular visitors to CALM.

New for 2008 are battling pirate ships in a tranquil pond. In addition, HolidayLights offers free rides on the Candy Cane Express train and a carousel as well as free parking.

Proceeds benefit the CALM Foundation which provides funding for new animal exhibits at CALM. HolidayLights is open from Nov. 29-Dec. 30, except for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Tickets will be available beginning Nov 22 at www.vallitix.com and also at the door of the event.

There are food vendors on site. Ticket includes parking, train ride and Ferris
Wheel. Events hours are from 5:30pm to 9:00pm.

Birth of a Parent is a unique class for pregnant couples. This is a 4-week class with a different instructor each night. Maternity Tea and Orientation

Are you nervous about this special day? Come and see what we have to offer at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital. There will be time to ask questions about policies and options open to you, and a tour of the maternal child health area of the hospital will be given.

Occurs the 1st Thursday of each month from 10:00am to 11:30am in Bakersfield Memorial Hospital Maternal Child Health Education Center. Please bring only one adult support person with you to this class. We are sorry, but we are unable to accommodate children. No registration necessary for this course.
