I'm really getting sick of the new "Sweet Surprise" ad campaign by the Corn Refiners Association. There is even a website to go along with it.
It's so frustrating because the ads are all the same. Some clueless person saying, "Well, you know what they say about it, right?" And then not actually knowing what "they" say about it themselves.
And I really hate the "fine in moderation" line because it is pretty much impossible to have it in moderation due to the fact that it is in everything.

I've found some good alternatives at Trader Joes--crackers and breads and all kinds of things made without HFCS, and at decent prices too. My SIL buys organic catsup--I'm pretty sure it's HFCS-free, but I haven't tried it yet. The thing we haven't been able to kick is pancake syrup. We've tried natural maple syrup, but we can't get used to the taste of it. :p So, we're still eating the syrup that is mostly HFCS. :( Thankfully we don't eat syrup very often, anyway.
If they were to make it without HFCS it would be so expensive the average family could not afford to purchase it anyway.
I totally agree, Lisa. Ever since I read "Fast Food Nation" I have stayed away from high fructose corn syrup as much as possible. Also, partially hydrogenated oils. It is so hard to find products without these ingredients, though. All ketchup, for example, has hfcs. I love me some ketchup!!! So sometimes I have to bend the rules. But I really wish companies would use natural, non-engineered ingredients. I make my own barbecue sauce, btw, because you just can't find any in the store without hfcs!
