About Sonya Adams

I am a stay at home mom of two amazing boys.  Colby (7) and Caden (5).  I have been married for 12 1/2 years to my high school sweetheart, Brandon.  I decided that once I became a mom, work was not that important....so, here I am, 7 + years later and wondering if I will really want to go back to work outside the home?

For "girl time" I enjoy bible studies, hanging out wtih my MOPS (Mothers Of Pre-Schoolers) friends and playdates with the same friends.  I also began my Mary Kay business, 6 years ago...wow~time does fly!  In my "other life" I wore a few differnt hats...I waited tables in high school and into my Jr. College years, worked as a secretary for a brief time until I purchased a hair and nail salon at the age of 20.  I was/still am a California licensed manicurist - this paid for college and I made a lot of great friends in this time.  Once I graduated from college, I went to work with the Dept. of Human Services.  I also enjoyed this challenging work....but, family was most important!

I was born and raised in Bakersfield, and think it's a great place to raise kids....as long as the air gets cleaner!  I never gave it a second thought until my youngest developed asthma due to allergies.  Running the boys around and taking care of the household keeps me busy.....I am anxious to begin working as a substitute teacher this fall, and am also hoping to volunteer in both boys' classrooms when I'm not subbing.  Staying at home has been a great experience; however, the need to supplement income now that the youngest is in elementary school has led to the call of substitute teaching!  It sounds ideal since I can work while they are at school and still be at home with the boys when they are out of school.

I used to LOVE! I mean LOVE! Mops. I once said "Whenever I get close to graduating from MOPS, I just have another baby!" (My children are widely spaced, not on purpose... so it might have looked that way! Thanks for commenting on my journal recently - I would love to see more journaling from you, too!

Hi Sonya! I was just reading your profile, and was wondering if I know you?? We have a lot in common- I quit DHS last May to stay home with my kids. Were you a SW?? I know, like you, do some stuff from home to make up my DHS income, but I LOVE being home!! Anyway, just wanted to say hi and introduce myself!!

hey sonya! the karate classes through nor are at three locations. we go to the greenacres site. you can go to norfun.org and check out the times and locations. ours is 8 bucks per class or you can buy a month's worth of classes at a time for 24 dollars. i can't remember the girl's name who is the teacher...just the fire in her eyes when she wanted to wring the rowdy one's neck. (not my kid, for a change!) she's looks super young but i know she has ethan's attention :). if you do it though, buy your sparring gear online!!! i can let you know where if you're interested. i just love the whole discipline aspect of the whole thing. talk to you soon, heather

Yeah, I know what you mean. My niece has chronic bronchitis and asthma and my youngest has had some problems too, though thankfully not too chronic. I remember as a kid asthma was this unusual thing, and now it seems like every other kid has it!! Oregon would be nice, though my friend in Ashland says it's hot there too..oh, but green and clean! Ha! I hate that we can't even go outside in the summer because of the heat and the air. I wish I could collectively get everyone I know to relocate with me! I'm sitting here sweating as I write, since there's no vent in my dining room. Ugh! Another day in paradise!!
