I am the mother of a beautiful boy named Derek who was born on election day, Nov. 4, 2008. His daddy, James Burger, and I both work in the newsroom at The Bakersfield Californian. I am the contributions editor, in which capacity I encourage the public to submit articles, photos and videos to Bakersfield.com and then I take the cream off the top and edit it to run in the newspaper. As a six-year resident of Bakersfield and a local homeowner, I can honestly say I love it here and am not in a hurry to leave. Unless, of course, I win the lottery.

The cloth diapers are working out really great! I used the newborn disposables for the first week or so because meconium stains cloth diapers. Then I continued to use them at first for outings and such, but every single time we did that we wound up with a yucky blowout mess. I've had a few minor leaks with the BumGenius diapers, but nothing like I was having with disposables. So I really like them. It isn't that big of a deal as far as laundry either, at least for me.
